Camp Verde to Grand Canyon's South Rim (Post # 48)

August 8
Our hike last night took us through the woods to a creek that ran behind the RV park.  Even though it seemed like a simple hike, it had a lot of big river rocks that we had to hike either over or around.  But the creek was pretty, and the weather had cooled down to about 98, so it was a nice hike.  The high yesterday was 107!  But I think I told you that already.

This was a nice park.  I loved the big trees. We'd stay here again if we're ever in this area again.  The temperature when we left this morning was 99 at 7:00.  Yikes! It's going to be another hot one today.

Such different looking crosses, but both so beautiful!

The picture below shows you how different it looks driving to the south rim of the Grand Canyon compared to driving to the north rim.

After getting set up at our RV park here in the Grand Canyon, we took the shuttle bus to the rim to get our first look for this trip.  We've been to the South Rim several times, but we never tire of looking at this beautiful place.

This is just one lookout of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  It's not as visible as it usually is because of all the smoke.  There are two fires burning over on the other side.

The smoke you see on the left side of this picture below is from a fire that was started by a lightning strike.  There is another one burning on the right side; that's the controlled burn they are doing on the North Rim.

The Hopi House.  It is modeled after old dwellings of the Hopi Indian tribe.

The sunset is not as visible tonight due to a storm moving in and all the smoke.

The storm brought us this beautiful rainbow and also cooler weather!

And there goes the sun.  So beautiful!

We'll head back over here in the morning to start our hike down the canyon on the Bright Angel Trail.
