Western Trip 2020, Oct. 14

 October 14, 2020.

Drive from Tim's house in Tucson, AZ, to Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel in Bosque, New Mexico.

After an emotional goodbye, we headed east on I-10.  For our first night out, we had reserved a site at Elephant Butte State Park in New Mexico.  We had stayed there before and loved it.  A few days before we got to Tim's we received a message that our reservation had been cancelled.  ALL New Mexico state parks are now closed to non-residents.  We found a private park on the route we wanted to take and were able to get a site.  Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel.  Yes, this is definitely the west.

We always stop at Hatch when we're on this route--the Chili Capital of the World.  We've bought dried hop peppers and roasted green hot peppers from here before.  Today, we stopped and bought two jars of roasted chili peppers and a couple of Christmas tree ornaments to remember our times here.  I don't like hot peppers, but they surely are pretty to look at.

There are pecan groves here, too.

The Rio Grande.

I haven't seen any horses at this "horse hotel" yet.  We already miss our family and their horses.

On one of our stops for fuel this morning, we put the makings of homemade vegetable beef soup in the crock pot for dinner tonight.  It was ready by the time we stopped for the night.

We'll turn in early tonight for a good night's rest after getting up at 3:30 this morning, doing our chores, and driving 426 miles today. We'll leave about 7:00 in the morning heading to Amarillo, Texas.  Night all.
