Western Trip 2020, Oct. 18

 October 18, 2020

Drive from West Memphis, Arkansas, to Cookeville, Tennessee.

Here comes the first tug and barge of the morning.  The clouds rolled in overnight, and we got a few sprinkles of rain--only about the second time we've been in any rain the whole trip.

And here comes the sun!  I didn't think we were going to see it for a while there.  We didn't leave so early this morning so that we could enjoy the Mississippi a little bit longer.

Not long after leaving Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River RV Park, we crossed the Tennessee state line.
Memphis

Nashville

The leaves on the trees are beginning to turn, but they don't seem to be as colorful as they should be.  I think it's partly because the sun isn't shinning on them. It's been overcast and rainy all day.
Our state park for the night is located outside of the town of Crossville, TN.  It's a nice looking little town.

We haven't stayed at this park before.  It has beautiful trees, but the sites are very small and very close together.  It's ok for one night, but I wouldn't want to spend several days here.

The last three days we've been mostly on 1-40.  I have to apologize to Oklahoma. Arkansas was the same way.  I don't think it's the states that are boring.  It's just being on the interstate.  We much prefer back roads even if it takes a little longer to get to where we're going.  But sometimes the interstate is necessary.  We are so thankful for the Lord's protection through all our many miles of traveling.  Tomorrow we'll be at Julian Price National Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Blowing Rock.  North Carolina, here we come!
