Western Trip 2020, Sept. 23

 September 23, 2020

Drive to Grand Teton National Park and Jackson, WY.

These are the last two pictures from Buffalo Bill State Park--such a beautiful calm after the storm.

We left in the dark again because we needed to get to the Grand Tetons in time enough to get a site at a campground.  These parks don't take reservations, so it's on a first come, first serve basis.
We came through the west entrance of Yellowstone, but couldn't get pictures.

Finally! Enough daylight to take pictures. Today is just a ride through Yellowstone.  Tomorrow we plan to come back and hike to some waterfalls.

There were lots of elk along the way, sometimes causing us to have to stop.  We could hear the big buck bugle until all the others were across the road.

And, yes, there's road construction every where we go, even in Yellowstone.

We finally see the sun.

Leaving out the South Entrance of Yellowstone.

Entering the Grand Teton National Park.

The Tetons are definitely not as visible as the last couple of times we were here,
clouded by the smoke from the West Coast fires, but they're still beautiful!

We got to our campground and secured a site and then headed in to Jackson for a little shopping.

Although most people call the town Jackson Hole, it's really Jackson.  Jackson Hole is the name of the valley in which the town of Jackson is located.  We did our shopping, (yes, a yarn shop) a grocery store, and got diesel for the RV.  And then we got out of Dodge!!  Oh, I mean Jackson!  Too many people for us!

Heading back to our campground to "unwind" from our frazzling journey into town.

Where the yellow trees are in these two pictures is where Gros Ventre Campground is located.  Over 300 sites nestled among the trees surrounded by mountains on all sides.  Only 20 sites here have electricity; all the others are dry camps, which means there are no hook ups at all.  On one side you are allowed to use generators sparingly and only at designated times, which is where we are. The other side you aren't allowed to use generators at all.

Our campsite.

It's a cool evening so this campfire is very enjoyable.  Tomorrow, back to Yellowstone and some waterfalls.

Good night and God bless.
