Even the lakes were still frozen, not solid enough to skate on, but the water was like a giant slushy with whipped cream on top.
We did see some elk and bison. Some bison were even walking down the middle of the road.
They didn’t seem to mind at all that they had traffic backed up behind them. One was meeting us head on, so Paul took to the turn out to get out of his way. We crossed the Continental Divide several times because the road wound around so much.
We went back to Old Faithful to see it erupt again.
Maryann, Kate & Natalie, Charity & Carter, and Brandon got to see us there on the webcam. This is such an amazing place. We got there just in time to do all we wanted to do and get back on the road before it started raining. It was a very cold rain, too, so I was so glad we had gotten up early and headed on out.
We stopped in West Yellowstone, a little town right outside of the park, to return our Gaperguide. That was an instrument that told us all about the park as we were riding through Yellowstone and the Tetons. I asked the lady in this store if there were any yarn shops around. Yep! Right around the corner! Needless to say, I bought more knitting needles and some beautiful pink yarn. (As if I didn’t have enough with me!) But it was just so pretty! Paul is so patient.
The drive back was mostly uneventful. The sky was very dark around the mountains.
We thought we’d surely run into some heavy rain or storms, but we just got some light drizzle. The mountains were very beautiful with all the clouds surrounding them. We also saw another beautiful sight.
This cross was very large but only about a tenth of the size of the one we saw in Texas summer-before-last. Of course, they say everything is bigger in Texas, right?
We’re back in our resort and looking forward to just staying put for a few days.
Good night, all.
Wow, it really was different from what we saw. It is really beautiful and it looks cold! Get some rest today! Miss you both! Love you!!
