Prince George, BC, to Ft. St. John, BC

Today on Mothers' Day we're on the road to Fort St. John.  This is not going to be one of my typical travel blogs because I'm going to delve a little deeper into my feelings about things.

This Mothers' Day is a little different for me because I'm away from my children.  Talking to them on the phone and via Facetime is good, but it’s not the same as being able to get my arms around them. Plus, long stretches of road offer a lot of time for reflection, and I can't help thinking about my mama a lot.  I miss her every year, but even more so this year because of traveling these long, winding roads. The changing scenery I’m seeing and photographing as we go along remind me of how the times and the seasons of life change so quickly.

Here we are riding alongside these beautiful green trees and up ahead we see the snow on the mountains.

But first we have to travel this long, winding road to get there.  So many times in life we can see something good up ahead, but we have to have patience and wait to get there.  But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the journey on the way.  The river looks so refreshing and the goal is getting closer.

And then, finally, we get to where we want to be, only we still have to climb up and over those beautiful mountains, or for whatever we're striving, on to the next curve of the road or that next thing in our lives.

Sometimes we see a "bumpy road ahead" sign,  but most of the time we don't know what's ahead until we get there.  We do, however, know that we'll get through the rough places to the beautiful valley ahead.

Sometimes we're in dry and desolate looking places that last for awhile, but then, suddenly,

the grass and trees turn green again.

The refreshing river, the flowers along the way, and the good times in our lives return.

Now, let's see if I can fit the next pictures into my emotional day.  Anyone recognize this town, Chetwynd?  No?  I wouldn't have either. Paul says it's the chainsaw carving capital of the world.

Does it fit in with my emotional day?  Sure it does.  Life can get pretty gnarly at times, but God, the Master Carver, can make it a work of art.  (SMILE!)
