Whitehorse, BC, to Beaver Creek, Yukon

We got a later start today because we slept in a little.  Last night was our most trying night since we started our "50th State" journey. Due to a mix up in our accommodations, we were assigned a room with a saloon right on the other side of the wall.  (without our knowledge).  The sun didn't go down until after 10:00 p.m. so we were late getting to sleep.  Then at 11:30 we were awakened by this awful sound!  After about 20 minutes of trying to figure out where the noise was coming from (our room was also on the bottom floor and on the street front) I called the front desk.  That's when we found out about the bar.  The desk clerk informed me there was nothing he could do.  So, to make a long story short, after listening to that for almost another hour, Paul went and straightened out the mix-up about our previous room (which was still empty) and we changed rooms.  It still took us quite awhile to get back to sleep, but at least we slept.

So, after a late start this morning, this church was the first picture on my camera.   I needed to see this.

Our first wildlife picture for today, a herd of wild horses.
Grace, I thought of you when I saw these this morning.

More mountain pictures.  Paul said to tell you all that these really are different pictures.  This is what we see every day, but we never get tired of seeing them. This is the St. Elias Glacier Mts.   Just beautiful!

Look how the mountains are reflected in the water of this lake.
We stopped at a little store along the roadside (these stores are few and far between) and an older lady asked us where we were headed.  I told her, Fairbanks.
She laughed and said,  "A nice road.  Nice and bumpy!"  Well, she certainly told the truth.  These next pictures show you what we experienced today in road conditions along the Alaska Highway.

Miles and miles of this road.  There were some sections that were paved, but they were almost worse than the dirt/gravel sections.

Our only other wildlife picture for today.  Another bear.
Finally, our destination for tonight.
 And our lodging.

And our "room".  Cabin # 5.  Based on the surrounding area, we should have a much quieter night tonight.  Tomorrow, after traveling for 6,900 miles, we'll cross the Canada/United States border into ALASKA!  WooHoo!
